TROOP HISTORY



Boy Scouts of America Troop 312 was formed in 1979-80. Bruce Dolimount was the first Scoutmaster, followed by Michael Healy, Bob Hearns, Bob Elms, Bob Koehler, Jim Rennalls, and currently, Scot Miller. According to one source, the number 312 comes from the 3 parts of the Scout Oath and the 12 points of the Scout Law.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Our charter organization is the Mt. Olive Rotary Club. The troop helps the Rotary Club with service projects when asked.

Meetings are usually held in the cafeteria at Sandshore Elementary School on Sandshore Road in Budd Lake on Tuesday evenings from 7:30 PM.- 9 PM. (September through June.) Parents are asked to be prompt in dropping off and picking up their sons for meetings. Please use the rear cafeteria door. Parents are always welcome to attend meetings to observe. Any change of meeting place or time will be announced during a meeting or by telephone or e-mail. Red shirts are worn, unless it is the first Tuesday of the month (or when announced) when full uniforms are required for youth and adults. Red shirts are also worn for fund-raisers and most troop events. A full uniform (also known as a Class A uniform) consists of official BSA shirt with appropriate, current patches, official BSA pants or shorts, belt, scarf, slide, and BSA socks when shorts are worn. Merit badge sashes and OA sashes may also be worn.

Court of Honor ceremonies are special to Scouts and parents alike, and they are held at least two times a year. Full uniforms must be worn for a court of honor. This is the opportunity for your Scout to receive recognition for earning merit badges, advancements, and other special honors. Parents, please make every effort to attend the Courts of Honor.
